Default Can somebody please help! I'm Baffled!

Ok, so this morning I start my Jk...start to reverse and as I begin reversing, I realize I forgot something so I tried to put my jeep back into park...the shifter goes into park but the light on the dash stays on R...and the jeep still rolls back? And I cannot shift it back into R or D....or anything for that matter (Automatic)...so I turn off the car and now it won't start st all??? I get power, the lights turn on everything but when I try to start it, I get nothing and the shifter is locked...I havent done anything to the Jeep besides put in a air horn and I replaced the fuse with a 25 amp but I didnt like it so I put the stock horn back in but did not change the fuse....I really dont think thats the problem. Does anyone have any ideas??? please HELP!

Don't know if this will help any, but since no one else has responded yet, I'll give you what I got. If it was me, the first thing I'd try is disconnecting the battery for a minute or so then reconnecting. I would also suspect the possibility of a bad battery. That's all I got. Good luck.

It will not start if it's still in gear. See if you can get it in 4 lo. You should be able to start but sounds like something in broken

When you say "I cannot shift it back into R or D", do you mean the lever won't move?
Or, do you mean the lever moves, but nothing happens?

If it moves, and nothing happens, the shift cable may have become disconnected at the lever or the transmission. You should be able to crawl underneath and see if the problem is there.
If OK underneath, try to gain access to the shift lever connection in the console.

Also, if you replaced the fuse with a larger capacity fuse, put the correct fuse back in. Fuses are there to protect the wiring from burning up and causing a fire from overload or a short circuit.

x2. doesnt sound like an electrical issue, so disconnecting the battery wont do any good. if the lever moves and the transmission doesnt shift, its most likely the shift cable. try the 4lo trick.

Unfortunatly I am work, I will try some of the suggestions afterwards, but I forgot to add that, on the dash panel its still in R, but my lever is in P on an incline (driveway)....I was in a hurry and stupid me may have shifted back into park without completing it when I truned it off....the jeep can still roll reversed....so its not in Park...a friend told me to get push onto level ground and turn the ignition to on and try to put the lever into reverse to "pop" back it back and then put it into park

There is a little cover next to the O/D Off button. Remove that and push the lever release button with whatever you have that will fit in there. See if it frees the lever.
If it does, put it in the various positions, and see if the indicator on the dash corresponds to the lever.

If the indicator does not change with lever movement, then go back to looking for a disconnected shift cable.

I had tried that cover but nothing happened, but I was in a hurry I'll try that again too tho, and if that doesnt work...I'll try the shift cable, where exactly would I find it?...but from what it sounds like...do u think it would be a more serious problem with the transmission?

Don't know until you see if the release button allows the lever to move.

1. Firmly set the parking brake.

2. Using a flat blade screwdriver, carefully remove the
shift lock manual override cover which is located on the
PRNDL bezel, in front of the P (Park) graphic.

3. Depress and maintain firm pressure on the service
brake pedal.

4. Using the screwdriver, reach into the manual override
opening. Press and hold the shift lock lever down.

5. Depress the shifter release button and shift into N
(Neutral).

6. The vehicle may then be started in N (Neutral).
Have your vehicle inspected by your local authorized
dealer, if the shift lock manual override has been used.
