The filter needs to be setting towards the front of the Jeep so the vent "door" can close properly. It took a little trial and error to find the right spot. The putty allows for a nice tight air seal, also I had to use a small metal bracket to support the end of the filter closet to the glove box (not shown in the pics)

I'm also investigating the possibility of installing a larger filter under the cowl cover that will flow more air. This filter slows the A/C vents by around 10 to 15% I'm guessing. It should work very well in keeping the dust from blowing through the vents. A filter mounted on the cowl would prevent all dust from entering the system, not just the condenser & vents ;-)

Great idea, I had to substitute a Ryco A1413 filter as the Fram one is not available in New Zealand. It was the right width but too long. No problem however to cut it down and even trimmed a radius for the damper to clear- covered the cut filter element with duct tape


My grille popped off so no need to cut (2009 JK).

Looking foward to some dust free summer driving (winter here at the moment).

Here's a project for me now that I've got the dimensions of the filter i need.

 

I have a 2010 JK, built in March 2010. My screen above the blower fan does not have the higned doors
like the 2011 MY, but I was able to remove the entire screen by prying open the 4 retainers on each corner. Inside,
just above the squirrel cage blower was the bracket to accomodate the two (2) OEM cabin filters
(just like on the 2011 model). I installed the filters and reinstalled the screen.
Happy to have filtered cabin air.

The part number for the 2011 Jeep Wrangler JK filter screen with the 2 filter access doors that open/close is P/N: 68235887-AA. This replaces the OEM screen for the 2010 JK, which does not have the access doors.

I bought these on-line (copy and search it). I found them from a site that allowed me to buy in bulk. I paid $20 for 6 pieces. They keep the smells down due to charcoal material in them. If I find the site, I will pass it on.

I have a 2010 JK built in April of 2010 with the standard air conditioning system and mine is the same as calemasters. Ordering the same parts, hopefully it will work on mine too.

 

This mod did not work AT ALL for me. I did everything perfectly, then went for a ride down a especially dusty dirt road. There was still dust flying ALL AROUND the inside of my Jeep. WTF?!!

I got back home from my drive, put the roof and doors back on, and ripped that STUPID cabin air filter out and threw it in the TRASH!
