Cheap fix that works great: take soaking wet paper towels and stretch them across the windshield. In a matter of just a few minutes, you can gather up the towels in your hands and the bug gore wipes right off.

dryer sheets generally have two main components on the fibers (besides perfumes or whatever)
a surfactant (detergents are examples of surfactants) and a fabric softener, which is basically a lubricant, it can be different things like an oil or soap or fat or even silicone derivative.
in the laundry, the surfactant kills the static charge and the lube makes everything feel soft.
On the dried-up bug splat, the surfactant helps "wet" the splat so it'll wipe off.

I use a hood deflector on my JK, for smaller bugs it creates an airstream that basically lifts the bugs over the windshield. Larger bugs dont make it and splat they go...just got to keep at it on a weekly basis..
