Brake Lock Diff Does Work in 4-Lo
Here's some good reading ........this might explain the Brake Lock Diff on or off suspense...If I'm reading this correctly, you do have it working in 4 LO.
Available for the first time with Jeep Wrangler models are Brake Lock Differentials (BLDs), which are incorporated into the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) algorithm. BLDs apply braking force to an axle's spinning wheel in order to provide an equal amount of torque to each wheel and deliver greater traction for rock-crawling over severe off-road terrain. A separate set of BLD calibrations is designed for off-road operation and automatically activates when driving in 4 Low
Electronic Stability Program For the first time in a Wrangler, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited come standard with Chrysler Group's Electronic Stability Program (ESP) – providing significant benefits in accident-avoidance driving situations. ESP helps the driver maintain vehicle directional stability by applying selective braking and engine control, within the limits of available traction, to maintain the vehicle's intended course. Jeep Wrangler's ESP system includes Hydraulic Brake Assist, Traction Control, Brake Lock Differentials and Electronic Roll Mitigation.
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler's ESP system provides three modes: “full on,” “full off” and “partial on,” with the default mode as “full on” with each engine start. The benefits of ESP's three modes are as follows:
ESP MODE BENEFIT
ON Applies selective braking and engine control to maintain the vehicle's intended course. Full-time ERM and Traction Control are available.
PARTIAL Traction Control is deactivated and ESP operates at a highe rthreshold. Full-time ERM and Brake Lock Differentials are available.
FULL OFF ESP and ERM are turned off. Brake Lock Differentials are available. Ideal for off-road activities where wheel lock-up is desirable

Tom, wouldn't E-Loc be a constant Posi when ingaged (both wheels with traction), I do have Trac Loc in rear(Limited Slip) , but if one wheel goes off the ground say in my front from a rock or I hit a slippery snow spot, then the BLD brake's the spinning wheel to put the power back to the wheel that has traction. So having a constant Lock setup (E-Loc)) is no doubt a more serious setup than my BLD. I think people with some great tires and a little lift would have a great day wheeling without E-Loc, only if all this electronic sh$t works correctly....... gee, it does most of the thinking for you.
A Trac-Lok® limited-slip rear differential is optional with Jeep Wrangler X and Sahara – as well as Wrangler Unlimited X and Sahara models – featuring a 3.21 or 4.10 axle ratio, which provides extra torque and grip during low-traction situations, such as driving over sand, gravel, snow or ice.
Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon models are equipped with Tru-Lock® front- and rear-locking differentials and feature a 4.10 axle ratio. Tru-Lock differentials provide low-speed maneuvering when climbing boulders and ascending steep inclines by evenly splitting torque between both wheels, forcing them to turn in unison for extra traction. Axle lockers may be easily toggled on and off by the dash-mounted switch. An optional Tru-Lock rear locking differential is available with all Jeep Wrangler X and Sahara models

The only problem I can see with this setup is long term reliability. There are 2 issues I see with a system that uses the brakes to transfer power from one side to the other. One, if the brake is applied to the slipping wheel then there is a torque impact force applied the axle shaft as the power is transferred to the other wheel. Secondly, when the brake is applied to the spinning wheel and it's no longer rotating at the same speed as the other wheel it will experience a second torque impact when the wheel regains traction and it has to accelerate to the speed of the other wheel. Obviously this issue is entirely mitigated with a differential locker. That being said, for the occasional offroader, this "virtual" locker capability is a huge increase in traction potential over a non ESP system.

No doubt lockers are way better, no dispute there, but when you don't buy the Rubi we're stuck with (Trac Loc if ordered), ESP, TC, BLD, HBA, and ERM, now that's enough to confuse anyone, way to many acronyms. If your not at the level of a hard core wheeler and not going to actually rock crawl, it'll do just fine. Now for a little humor, if my computer fails, I'm stuck .

Just visited a dealer today to look into ordering an "X". The "push button" trac lock will not be available until late model 2007 Saharas and X's. Who knows how long that will be.

An optional Tru-Lock rear locking differential is available with all Jeep Wrangler X and Sahara models. [/COLOR][/U][/I][/B]
If I wasn't in a such a hurry buying mine, I might of held out for the optional Button controlled rear (Tru Lok) locker in stead of (Trac Lok))on my "X" >>> I Read about it, I Seen it, I Loved it, I Bought it... My problem was, it had just about everything on it & painted Rescue Green , basically that's how I would of ordered anyway.

I played around in a little mud hole last night, and i was spinning all over the place.... way more then my 05 Xterra with ABS and a Limited Slip rear end did... same tires too. I was in 4 hi, nothing seemed to lock for me...
