Best On-Off Road Tire close to stock 255 75R17?
I would like to replace my GoodYear SRAs with a more well rounded tire in the stock size or close thereto. I am tempted to go with Duratracs, but they don't come in this size. 285 70R17 would be about 0.7 inches taller and 1.5 inches wider. I am running stock wheels and suspension, so maybe this is a bit too wide. 265 70R17 would be 0.4 inches shorter and 0.7 wider. I would rather not go with a smaller diameter, so maybe the Duratracs are not a good choice. Other recommendations? I have no need to go appreciably bigger, and no immediate plans for suspension modifications. Thanks.

I would probably by some rubi takeoffs for cheap. That's an odd size tire. Though there easily found here and could buy two sets used for the price of buying new. To get the same diameter most tires are considerably wider requiring different wheels or spacers. Depends on if your willing to run spacers or buy new wheels. If not, then it looks like you have to give up just a bit of height or stick with the same size. There might be some 255/80/17 out there that would work.

You might consider a 255/85r16 or 255/80r17 they are taller but I've seen several people run them on stock with no rub except the air dam. There is Cooper ST's and BFG KM2's on Discount Tire's site also Maxxis mudders on other sites. I was looking at them hard but was buying rims anyways so went 285/75r16.

Take a look at the Cooper Discoverer S/T or AT3. They both come in a 275/70R17 (32.2 x 11.32) and will work with your stock wheels, they also come in the 265/70R17 and 285/70R17 sizes. I have 285/75R16 S/Ts on my JK and the 235/75R15 AT3s on my XJ. The STs are more agressive off road but still handle nice on the street, I am on my second set after getting 65k miles out of the first set. The AT3s are not quite as agressive but ride really nice on the road.

Firestone Destination A/T 275 70R17 too wide for stock wheels?
The stock SRAs I have on my Wrangler are 255 75R17. They are 32.1" tall and 10" wide according to Tire Rack. The 275 70R17 are supposedly 32.2" tall and 11" wide. Based on what I've read, these would be marginal width on the stock wheel. Perhaps some rubbing. Any experiences?

coming from experiance on the Firestone AT's they are an excellent tire my wife runs them on her 04 Liberty & I had them on mine ( when I had it) very good traction & wear, balanced well also never had an issue, & with New England winters/weather never got stuck in the snow
