Most service writers have NEVER been technicians, they are good on terminology and reassuring customers, and selling additional work. This does NOT mean they are passing an accurate description on to the tranny man about your problem. Does your dealership have a specialised transmission repairman? Is he ASE certified? Most new vehicle service repair work these days is done by following manufacterer flow charts for diagnosis. In other words if the transmission does this - perform this procedure. Problem still exists- perform this and so on till the end of the flow chart. This is why it is critical that you get your info to the technician clearly and completely. Hell I've worked at dealerships for 30 years and have had the technician drive my car home for a couple of days to let them see for themselves what the thing is doing. Don't be afraid to ask to speak to the technician about your problem, however if you are upset vent on the writer or service manager. The tech is on your side. Remember- what seems glaringly evident to you might not even catch another persons attention when looking at your vehicle because you are familiar with your car , they aren't. P.S. Try your other key for a few days.....
Great advice TINMAN. When you are working the same problem at the third dealer it's tough to keep your cool, but I remembered this post and kept it strictly professional. Jury's still out on wether or not the approach worked, but at least I got to speak directly to the tech and he understands the problem and is sympathetic.

Does the check engine light come on when trans is in 2nd ? If so trans is in limp, and pcm keeps it in 2nd so You can get where Your going.Recycle key as soon as you can.
When You RECYCLE KEY the pcm resets itself and trans will shift normally
until problem is seen again, check engine light should still be lit.
The PCM FLASH can be done, But if the program is up to date in engine /trans/orc ect... the computer reads no updates availble. The tech knows what updates are availble for each device and problem.
If the check engine light dosen't come on when trans is in limp it could be something like governer pressure sensor in V/B.
When a CODE IS STORED in pcm its in there till erased

Dealer called me yesterday to tell me that my parts were in (torque convertor I assume) and to schedule an appointment. It goes in first thing Monday morning and they told me to expect that they would have it for a while. They can keep it as long as they want assuming it works right when I get it back.
