Auto and 4:10 gearing?
Although I would prefer to have a manual 6 speed over the auto for all the reasons and then some listed on this site in other posts...
I have found locally a very nice 2007 Wrangler X JK 2 door with the options I want, low milage, clean, etc, but NOT with my choice of tranny. It has an auto. But it has the 4:10 gears. At least the current owner SAYS it has the 4:10's. I have not seen the window sticker yet. This JK does NOT have a trailer tow package, BTW. Were 2007's offered with 4:10's w/o the trailer tow package? Hmmm.
I am most likely going to leave jeep this stock or very close to stock. No 35's or 37" in the future. At most a 2" lift, but not in the near future.
My question then is, although the manual gives the driver better control of the jeep's power band in most off road driving, does the 4:10 gearing compensate for some of the loss of power being consumed in the torque converter, especially for off road application? Does the 4:10 gearing make the auto a more usable feature in the JK as opposed to 3.73's?
I have driven this jeep on road and I did not think it to be near as sluggish as I would have imagined. Compared to manual tranny JK's I have driven with 3.21 and 3.73 gearing, the 4:10's seemed almost peppy. I was actually quite surprised with the response of the 4:10 and V6.
For those of you who have wheeled with this combination of gearing and auto tranny, what are your thoughts and real world wheeling opinions?
Thanks!

I have an 07 auto with 4:10 gears. I have always had a manual transmission in all of my other Jeeps. I love my auto and would replace it with another auto if I had to replace my JK today. No more clutch slip on rocks...so nice. Now I understand it is personal preference, this is just my choice. I have also added a rubicrawler, this is not available for the manual transmission. With the Crawler I have normal 4 hi and low, 2:72 1 low for 2 wd and 7:40 1 available for 4 low. Very versatile! I also added a sprint booster to eliminate throttle lag. This has 3 settings, stock, first stage and second stage. This is also nice for different off and on road situations.

I just bought an '07(2 door) a month ago. It did not have the factory tow package, and according to my build sheet, it has the 4:10 gears.
While I really wanted a manual trans. I went with an auto for two reasons. It's much easier/safer to install a remote car starter in, and I frequently lauch a boat by myself. I didn't want to leave my jeep on a boat launch ramp and only depend on the parking brake to hold it.
As far as the performance of my JK, I couldn't be happier. It suits my needs perfectly.

My 07 unlimited (used to be X) with auto trans does not have the tow package but does have 4:10 gears. Teraflex leveling kit and 33s. Goes through everthing!
This is my 6th jeep and moved to autos with my last TJ. Wont go back to a manual.

I have a 2011 Rubi with auto and 4:10's and I have no issues with power or performance. Sure, I admit the JK does not have as much power as I would like to see, but I certainly have had no issues with mine and enjoy it. I did have an 09 with 6-speed, and I would not buy another one, as I feel Jeep builds one of the worst manual trannys there is on the market.

I have a '10 Rubicon with the automatic and 4.10 gears.
It runs great down the highway and stop and go traffic.
Quick on take off but slow in the midrange.
The tranny and 4.10 gears do well in the creeks and wet rocks.
It also does really good on very steep hill climbs, with or w/o rocks.
I like the added feature of the remote start also, since I have the automatic.
