Compass
Thanks guys...Dmos, I don't know where to start, but if we were talking laboratory furniture and fume hoods, I'd probably sound the same.
My phone is one of the windows mobile PDA types, which seems to affect it more than my daughters basic phone.
I'll error on the side of caution and use the tray for sunglasses (assuming the windows are closed..you know who I am talking to..)
Again, thanks all for the feedback

MI Sahara: The reason your smart phone causes different behavior than your daughters simple phone is probably because smart phones use 2 data methods - a Cell freq. and a Data freq. so your phone creates more RF chatter than hers.
1). The simple phone conducts a periodic heartbeat with cell towers
2). Your smart phone conducts IP traffic like checking for email etc. on one freq while simultaneously doing the cell heartbeat on
another freq.
There are formal acronyms for all these freqs like EDGE Network but I don't keep 'em all in my head.

From what I understand if you leave your phone up there too long and the compass stays off by 180 degrees for more than 30 minutes, you risk throwing earth off its axis completely....therfore changing the current atmospheric conditions of the earths gravitational pull. In otherwords, Al Gore will be pissed....
