My old 70 Blazer with over 200,000 miles on it burns less oil than my Jeep. I don't understand how a quart every 1000 miles could be considered normal.
Have them start an Oil consumption test maybe if enough of us do this the problem will get fixed

Geez, all this talk is making me nervous. I bought my 07 used with 9K miles on it. I now have 12K on it. Should I be doing anything besides religious oil changes?

Just dropped the Jeep off at the Dealership so they can fix what ever is wrong tomorrow whether it's the piston rings or valves we'll see.

I would like to thank Wayoflife again for posting this e-mail address gualberto.ranieri@chrysler.com I used it and Chrysler called within a few days

Chrysler does read this forum the case worker that called me made reference to my posts

Started an oil consumption test on my 08. What is messed up though is that they overfilled it by a 1/2 quart.

What's up with that... would that be so the oil is a 1/2 quart higher when you have your 500 mile check up.......... isn't that cheating on a test

I'm sure that's why they did it, haha. The first dealership I went to for the oil consumption test gave me the run around. They were definitely up to something shady. I decided to try another one...going in Tuesday for them to check the levels.

Also, the dealership I went to this time said the 3.8 takes 5.5qts of oil. What's up with that? Even the manual says it takes 6, which is what I've always put in it.

The sump holds 5.7 liters, which is 6 quarts.

My Jeep sits during the week while I work. When I start it on the weekend to go out exploring it sounds kinda awful starting the first time that weekend. Each restart the same weekend is quieter. It only has 6,500 miles on it My 2000 Silverado has never made noises like this thing and it sometimes sits two weeks or more between starts!

Yep, Im a vehicle junkie the more the better

Good thing there is a 5 year 100,000 mile power train warranty.

Now I wonder, would Chrysler void my warranty if I change to 5w30 to help combat this start up noise

Sorry not intending to hijack but it seems this is yet another oil control problem with the 3.8
