How long did it take to replace it?

Default repair

I have to take it in. I needed the upper steering column. It has to come from Detroit, not many around. Mine problem was easy to find, you can shake the steering column around inside of the mount where it passes through the firewall. That's where the clunk sound come from.

Well, I paid $160 for a new lower intermediate shaft and sent my old one to Borgeson so they can build a heavy duty shaft for the JK. (donations are being accepted )

After replacing the lower intermediate shaft (part# 55351281AB) the clunk is gone, just like others have said. But, will it return?

The factory shaft is crap if you take it off and look at it. It's made of disimilar metals (aluminum, steel). With the coefficient of thermal expanision being different between the 2 alloys I can see why we are getting a clunking after the shaft gets hot.

I believe Borgeson's shaft are a high grade steel all the way thru.

If you any of you guys want a shaft you need to call Gil @ Borgeson. The number to Borgeson is 860.496.9320

Default Clunk

I went to jeep and they had a "foreman" go for a ride with me. He said he didn't feel anything so I went on my way glad it was my imagination... Damn it all the power of suggestion! Well I am now over my denial and just freaking annoyed that I will be having to deal with this steering freaking clunk thing! I still love my 4dr rubi but... starting to feel like a sucka for shelling out the extra cash for the rubi... 1300 miles master and slave cylinder dies. (near death valley) 2000ish mile after a very easy run, I developed the steering clunks. Good Times!!!
