Well they still have my JK...going on day two. I called and they said they did find out why it was having a hard starting issue...cam sensor was bad. As for the steering clunk/pop...they had to order the part of the steering shaft that goes into the steering box. Last time they replaced the upper intermediate steering shaft. Supposed to be in tomorrow...I hope so, we're having the best weather we've had yet this year and the rental Charger just isn't cutting it!

Cool. Thanks for the update.

My exhaust manifold should arrive on Friday, so I'll swap it out either Friday or Saturday and let all know if that cures the exhaust leak noise.

Next on my list is this clunking in the steering column.

Have them look at both shafts that tie into the knuckle right beside the manifold. One shaft goes to the steering box and the other goes up into the firewall to the steering column. Good luck, hope it all gets corrected

Just as I suspected. The dealer did not notice a thing. I will be persistent and look for someone who actually knows what is going on.

They replaced the lower shaft that goes into the steering box...ALL FIXED!!! No more clunk. So let's review...they replaced the intermediate and lower steering shafts and this corrected the issue.

Scootr68,

So let me get this straight. They replaced the 2 shafts which are connected by a U-Joint that connect at one end to the steering box 'splined shaft' and the other end to the shaft that comes out of the firewall...?

After you mentioned this in a prior post in made a lot of sense because if that U-Joint heats up (beings it's right next to the exhaust manifold) and the tolerances are on the loose side, it would only happen on some people's Jeeps.

Have you tried 'wheelin' yet? That's when mine is terrible!!!

Thanks for the update!

Scootr68,

Please keep us up to date as to if your 'clunk' comes back.

Any recommendations on how to get the dealer to replace what was done on your Jeep. Because...........as you know, you can't tell them anything. They know it all already. Stupids!

I sure will, just do as I did when it starts the clunking thing...insist the service manager drive it and you ride along with him. That's what I did.
