Adding a hardtop to a non-hardtop JK!! Help
Hey all, so unfortunately my 2012 JK 2 door did not come from the factory with a hardtop, so I actually managed to find one pretty cheap and local. Has anyone ever ran the wiring harness kit for the rear wiper/washer and defroster and had it programmed to work? I want to see how involved and difficult it is! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

well
Similar to you, I bought a hard top for my 2012... however my 2012 actually came OEM with a hard top... damn previous owner!
so I had all the wiring and stuff ready.
You'll gain most of the benefits regardless of the wiper + defroster. + squirt-er thing.
I wonder if most of the stuff is there anyway; just what? no buttons for it? Did you check where the hard top wiring connects? is there a connector back there anyway?
seems like it would be easier to make all jeeps w/that part on them.

It's a little involved last time I read it. You have to make some changes to the fuse box. You could just run it without the defroster and wiper (which is useless anyway)
If your jeep came as a soft top, your rear springs are probably on the light side too.

I went through it 2 months ago. I got the Mopar wiring kit, you need to remove trims, part of the dash, ... It took me around 3 hours. A technician at my dealer (where I got the kit), told me that it took him around 2.5 hours the first time he did it and now 45 minutes after doing several ones.
Also after doing the installation I had to go back to the dealer to flash the system to activate the new controls, they did this for free.
Sorry I haven't took pictures when I did it, but the instructions were pretty clear.

It's pretty involved. If you have the time and some patient give it a try but it won't be cheap. Kit cost 260 then my dealership was going to charge $100 to flash it. I too was interested in doing this after buying a used hard top for my 07 . After realizing it wasn't wired I decided it wasn't worth all that hassle for just a wiper and defrost. I live in Charlotte nc and for two winters I haven't needed either. There is a write up on here with diagrams and pictures.good luck to you

I run a soft top all year after owning 2 other jeeps with dual tops. Changing the tops for 3 months of bad weather wasn't worth the hassle.
I just use my side mirrors when I can't see out back.
If I lived further north, it might be different.
