Lockers, stronger t-case, and stronger axles are a plus for pretty much any wheeling situation. But, yes, the non-Rubicon JK is still highly capable, and able to be built up.

I too am about to buy an '09 JK Rubi. If you go to edmunds.com you can build your own and see what other people in your area are paying.

If you go to Jeep.com you can "build my own" and get a pretty good idea of what you should be paying after any discounts and incentives they are running.

Hope it helps!

The whole reason I am going to spring for the rubicon is so that I will have a pretty capable vehicle. If pull the trigger on the Con' I plan to keep it for 20 years + and make full use of the lifetime powertrain, plus I am only into moderate wheeling at the most, so it should suit my needs well. I also plan to use it as my primary vehicle and daily driver.

Would everyone here agree that the stock JK rubicon is more capable out of the box than the TJ rubicon?

I would agree, how much though not too sure. Obvious benefits are 1" larger tires and the sway bar disco.

It's about 2.5K less than what I still owe on my '08 rubi, so I'd say it's a good deal.

If he's smart for many reasons. Rubicons have much higher resale value proportional to their price and they sell quicker. When he upgrades there is a market for the used parts. Nobody wants parts off the other models. Plus all the other reasons pointed out in the thread.

The thing that has me puzzled are the people who have said that they purchased new 09 rubicons for 23K. I have talked with about 10 dealers in MN, ID, and FL including the large volume dealer Dave Smith motors and the best I could find for ordering a new Con' was the 25,120 price. If anyone could lead me on to a dealer who could order me a new one for 23K I will go with it.

Thumbs down

Anyone who puts Rubicon decals on the hood of a JK that Isn't should be expelled from Jeep-hood and sent to hell!
