Default ? about maintenance

This my first time owning a Jeep (JK). How often do you guys recomend I do an oil change? I took my car in for the 3,000 mile service a few months back because I was going by what the manual says. Now today I was on the phone with someone from Optional Car Care (they send you those booklets with coupons to use for maintenance) and he was saying to bring it in every 5,000 miles. I'm up to 5,500 now and I was waiting to get to 6,000 to take it in. I know I should not wait until I hit 10,000 that's for sure! Any suggestions?

I believe the maintenance section of the manual says there are 2 service schedules that can be followed -
1 for severe use - every 3,000 miles and the other for regular use, every 6,000 miles.
I don't consider mine severe use, but still change it every 3,000 miles.

Check the manual for more details, lots of information in it.

Yeah, I never understood the whole "severe use" thing. Does that mean that one can go in 6,000 intervals without an oil change?

The only way that you can go that much, is by driving on flat roads, for more than 10 miles each way, without having to stop and go, making the temp outside a solid 65-85... I have always done 3,000 here in FL. And I also use 10w30 because it drops below 50 once a year, if that often.
P.S. When you find that place, please let me know, I will join you there.

I'm changing mine every 3,000. I read that "severe use" thing in the manual and I didn't consider my driving to be "severe", but I guess it is. The manual says 3,000 and has a place to keep records of it so that's what i'm doing. If I ever sell it, prob never sell it, i'm sure whoever buys it would like to see oil changes at 3,000 just to know that it was well taken care of .... KEEP RECORDS.

Cool, Thanks for the advice guys. I'm keeping mine under the 3,000 mile cycle no matter what this guy from O.C.C. says.
