I've put in Mobile1 5w20 for the last 20k miles and change it about every 4k and had no problems. I'm actually considering going with AMSOIL at my next change and then only change it every 10k after that. I'm just wondering if I should stay with the 5w20 or if the 5w30 would be better over a long period.

I've heard great reviews on the AMSOIL products and some poor ones on Mobile1. Castrol Synthetic would be my second choice going forward.

i know this thread is a little old and i apologize for bringing it back. we have just bought a used 08 JKU with about 38k mile on it. i think we have put about 1k miles on it over the past month and most of that was on a road trip. i have noticed the engine is get a little noisier now on start up.

I say all of that just to say thank you. I have become accustom to never checking my oil levels. I have never had a car that really used oil. and i have had a lot of cars. i am so glad i found this thread. sounds to me like i have my first engine that uses oil. i am a long time amsoil user and just placed my order of some 5w30 for the JK. Lets see how it turns out. i am heading to the garage now to check the oil level. It has been sitting for a couple days so now is as good a time as any.

thanks a lot guys for this informative thread.

The 5w30 should help. Also check the PCV valve and replace if necessary

5-30 is amazing. The jeep is quieter. It runs smoother. It has made a huge difference in my jeep experience. I will NEVER do 5-20 again.
