5W-30 anyone?

Chrysler specifies 5W30 as the alternative fill for the V6 in the owners manual where I am (outside the 'States) & the motor is no different than the one installed in US-sold JKs. The motor was originally designed to run on 5W30 anyway in the minivans before Chrysler changed the oil specification around the time of its introduction into the JK simply to squeeze an extra 1/2 MPG out of the motors during laboratory testing to achieve the US govt specified mileage targets for the Chrysler fleet.
tpm152 here is an automotive engineer specializing in fuels/lubricants I believe & has run real-world tests himself on 5W30 so he knows what he's talking about; see this thread:

I wanted to switch, but decided to stick with 5W20 on my '11 after reading in my warranty manual that the warranty CAN be voided if you use any other than "fluids and/or oils other than recommended in the owner's manual".
I doubt most dealers would void your warranty due to oil viscosity, but it's something they COULD do according to the manual, and that's simply not a risk I can afford to take.
Once this thing is past 100K.... I'll do whatever I want to it.

Living in SoCal, where it gets nice and warm during the summer, I went with Mobile 1 synthetic 10w-30. For some reason, and I wish I knew why, my engine seems to run much quieter and has a smoother idle. Is there an explanation for this, or is it just in my head?

Higher viscocity oil coats all the components that have metal-to-metal contact with a thicker oil film so has the effect of deadening the sound a little. This is particularly true for the valvetrain and will result in fewer ticks & rattles being heard. It's the principle of that oil additive you pour in to old & worn motors that, in addition to reducing oil burning, results in a noticably quieter valetrain.
