30k service
I have searched and found other posts discussing this question but I really need an answer to this situation. I brought my jeep in for the 30,000 mile servicing and they told me that it would be 1,200 + tax. I was taken back and asked what that included. I was informed that it was complete engine to transmission servicing. This included clearning and reasembling and programing. The guy went the whole 9 yards with the description. Is this just a BS sales pitch? Do I need this? More importantly will they just do an oil change and slap on the record that they completed the servicing?
I know many will say do it yourself etc. I am not someone who has the knowledge of experience to complete the servicing. Does anyone have any other advice? Should I try another dealer (not easy)? Have a non jeep mechanic complete the work? Tell them I only want certain things done?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

For what it is worth- My dealer quoted me $795 + tax. I told him I would think about it! I am glad you asked the question as I am interested in others' thoughts as well.

I went to Bayside Jeep on Long Island. I RECOMEND YOU STAY AWAY. They were just for lack of a better word slimy. I called three other dealers and I have recieved a wide range of prices. Perhaps I just need to find out what needs to be done and tell them to price those items out.

are they rebuilding the engine? look in the manual. 30k is not that much. some inspection. oil change. air filter. diffs i think. take it to a small shop. they will do it at much less!!

I think it was less than 300$ for me. They just did the front/rear diffs and recommended the xfer case. I'm holding off and doing a big service at 60,000. I spend almost all my miles on the highway.

here is what should be done at 30k according to our Owners manual, which you can download a pdf version from http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/manual...er%20Unlimited
Replace the engine air cleaner filter. 30,000
Check the PCV valve, replace if necessary. Perform
the first inspection at 60,000 miles (100 000 km) or 60
months.
30,000
Change the manual transmission fluid if using your
vehicle for any of the following: trailer towing, snow
plowing, heavy loading, taxi, police, delivery service
(commercial service), off-road, desert operation or
more then 50% of your driving is at sustained high
speeds during hot weather, above 90°F (32°C).
30,000
Inspect the transfer case fluid. 30,000
4 things thats it, ok maybe add an oil change in there, and they want to charge 1200 or 795 or anything over 200 for that they should be SHOT!
Avoid dealers like the plague they are.
I'd go back to the dealer that wanted 1200 and ask them why the things listed in the OWNERS MANUAL to do at 30k come out to 1200 bucks, even if they added things that should have been done at 12,18,24 it still should be no where near those prices, then tell them you're going to give Chrysler Customer service a call
DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation Customer Center
P.O. Box 21–8004
Auburn Hills, MI 48321–8004
Phone: (800) 992-1997
then goto your local mechanic and get a price from them.
