I tool my Jeep to the dealer today and mentioned a raspy tick like noise under load when the engine was hot. Their go-to engine tech let me drive him around and he gave it a thorough look at. According to him, it sounded normal so perhaps our engines can run a bit noisy. They definatly were not dodging warranty work because they replaced my driveshaft even though it died because of my lift.

I have 38k on my 2007 Rubi unlimited. 2" budget boost lift, 33's and CAI. I have been running 5w30 mobil 1 full synthetic since the first oil change. I change my oil every 4000-5000 miles. It's been burning about 1qt of oil every 1000 miles since about 20k. It also as an engine knock at start up. Taking it into the dealer for service on Monday. Wish me luck.

2007 unlimited with 62,000 and some change. At 60,000 did a complete bumper to bumper fluid change, no real surprises except water pump was leaking and for it replaced as well. Plenty of noise from everywhere though, and no one can help. Everyone says it's solid, just rattles like a box of broken glass.

I had the same problem when using mobile one, I switched back to Dino oil and it stopped burning.

My '07 Sahara JK is currently in the shop getting a Jasper long block placed in it. The original motor spun bearings on #2 and #6 cylinders at 36,653 miles. Very glad I purchased an Extended Service Plan from the Ford dealership where I bought the Jeep at. They are covering it with the exception of my $100 deductible.

36k miles.
CAI, Flashpaq since about 16k miles
been using 5w20 mobile sythetic since new however have switched to 5w30 with last change due to these issues and my engine burning a quart over the last 5k miles.

All my old jeeps had either the 4.2 or 4.0, none with less than 180k miles on them and none burned oil.
I am seriously pissed about this.

After reading about the potential for problems, I've decided to go with a ChryslerWarrantys.com Bumper to Bumper coverage. I can get 3 1/2 more years and another 33k miles for $1600 (7 yr/70,000 miles total). I thought about the Lifetime but that's $2900. I bought an 07 X with 36k miles on it last month and I'm going to feel better knowing that if something like spun bearings, etc. develop, it will only cost me $100 to get it fixed. This is the same company that I got my warranty through for my Grand Caravan that was bought new in 08, but that's the lifetime plan.

2008 with 36,000 miles. I use Castrol Syntec 5-20 and it is perfect to this point. No oil consumption or noise and it runs great.
Why is it that I now wish I hadn't said that?

Mine is running great at a few hundred under 40k. I change out the oil every 6k or when the light dings. Use Mobil-1 mostly, just switched to Castrol Syntec because it was on sale. Use high quality filters, Mobil-1, Bosch, K&N. Drive in a manner not reserved, but I don't really punch the gas down very often after breaking it in. No other problems either as far as drivetrain. I have noticed the drivetrain getting a little bit louder, but it might just be my imagination - or, after I put second skin in the door panels it was much quieter with the soft top, the hard top might just make the drivetrain seem louder.

The passenger window is getting louder (electric), the drivers seat is a little broken down probably because I slide off usually. Most everything inside is in much better shape than my last car faired at 40k, and without as good of treatment. The plastic is scratched up more, and the paint is more scratched than it should be given its treatment.

Overall, this vehicle is running like a champ compared to my last one (WK) at the miles, and looks better.
