Default 3.8L JK engine origin

Can anyone tell me the origin of the 3.8L JK engine (petrol). Is it a brand new engine or is it used on some other vehicle? I thought it may have been used in the Chrysler Vogager. Anyone........

Yeah, it's been used in the minivan for some time, I think it also saw some action in the Pacifica. So it's not new, and is quite proven.

[EDIT] Here's a list of vehicles:

1991-1993 Chrysler Fifth Avenue and Chrysler Imperial
1991-present Chrysler minivans
2007-present Chrysler Pacifica
2007-present Jeep Wrangler

Hmmmm.... Might be interesting to see what the weight difference is between the two. Guessing that it's not that much since it's only a little 3.8L V6. I can say that after driving this thing for 3 weeks that it's got OK power for commuting and general traffic duty - nothing impressive, but I haven't felt like it was dangerously underpowered yet. It's seemed to take more throttle to get going some times and it has had to downshift on what I would consider small road 'rises' (wouldn't even call them a real hill) - leaves me wondering if it really has enough 'guts' to tow the rated 3500 lbs and even make it up a moderate hill.

I can see it now - twin turbo aluminum block/head 3.8L
