At the risk of saving you some $$$$$...take it to the dealership. What you have is the dreaded 3.8l cracked exhaust manifold(s). It is covered under the emissions warranty up to 80,000 miles. The 3.8l (aka minivan engine) was never designed to take the high RPMs that are produced by the Jeep so the exhaust finds the weakest point to put stress on and that is the manifolds. It is cheaper for Chyrsler to replace the broken ones than to do design better ones on an obsolete platform, do a recall, and install the new ones because most people don't realize that is the problem. They think they need to use better gas!
Mine are both cracked and I have the same symptoms you are describing. I am just too lazy to get it over to the dealership!

Mine was noisy while cold and then would improve when warmed up. Not no more. My Jeep runs smooth and quiet now.

I took a video that I want to upload, is there a way of putting it up easily via iPhone?

The more I listen to it, I do believe it's an exhaust leak at the manifold. But if still like to upload to see what everyone else thinks.

Yup, that sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Definitely not pinging/knocking, nor is it clatter from low oil pressure.

Jeep making noise - YouTube
Im curious to how it sounds when you rev the engine. When mine was noisy, i could only notice it when i would press the gas. It sounded more like a tap. Yours does sound different though.

Yup, if it is your manifold you may be covered under warranty depending on when you purchased your Jeep. If I remember correctly the '07 & '08s purchased after 7/26/07 came with the lifetime warranty. If its not covered you can get a replacement fairly cheap or it may be time to upgrade to Ripp Hedders

Right on. Thanks everyone, I bought it about 4 months ago with 65k miles. Now it's got about 72k. Probably not covered by factory warranty, but I did purchase a warranty when I bought the jeep, so maybe that will cover it

Is it a 6 speed? Probably throw out bearing in clutch... If you slightly depress clutch noise goes away?

Yeah it's a six speed. But no, sound is pretty constant.
