Another consideration, I believe that Bestop is making upper door replacements for the half doors that are a hard slider window. I'm sure someone here knows more about that. That way you could have a hard window vs. the plastic if that is a concern of theirs. I really am a huge fan of the half doors, and think they are awesome. Good luck dude!

Oh, and in addition, you can easily trade for full doors, but you'll be very hard pressed to get a half door option later that won't cost an arm and a leg.

Having half doors on all the time is safer than taking full doors OFF during the summer. The factory half doors are the same on the lower half, which is where you'd get hit anways... etc.. I don't think that half or full are safer either way.

Cold, Fog, Rain, Snow... WHATEVER.... the heater in this JK is like standing in front of a furnace blower, it will not matter if you have half doors, full doors, or Saran Wrap doors, you'll be warm enough.

As for the toll, and ease of window use, again, I think that Bestop is making slider window for the factory half doors.

If he's worried about security, you could tell him it's cheaper to replace the soft windows than the glass in a full door when the jackoff that busts in does... and they will, regardless of what doors you have.

Hope that helps, good luck!

I'm going to turn this in an entirely different direction.

Currently your parents don't see this as YOUR vehicle. It appears that they are not going to support you to obtain what you want, simply because it is not what they want (or want you to have). Until / unless you have or are prepared to take the full responsibility for your purchase, you will likely be dealing with their wants no matter what.

If you are truly at an impasse, and want the jeep, then it would appear that you are stuck with the full doors. However, for about $500, you should be able to get Element doors with the enclosure panels or soft doors that should be a close second. If you chose that route, your parents get the full doors they want, and you get the open feeling of the half doors.

OR, finance the thing yourself, and you're not subject to your parent's standards.

my dad wants a wrangler (for me). i will admit, im a speed freak and i love anything fast. i almost got a subaru impreza but once he saw insurance costs and i told him how i wanted to mod it (bad thing on tellin him on my part) he was like ok no more fast cars. and he wants me to get into more off roading. so we have been lookin at jks (for a buncha reasons over a used tj) and i found an X for 18k and he said he diddnt want it cuz it looked "abused" (it had one scratched palstic window), and now this and he is bitchin about the doors. he makes huge deals of the simplest things like if he dosent like it he will be like oh its a bad color oh the headlight is bla bla oh this oh that etc...

I thought my wife was tough! Poor little fella! LOL

Dude, man up and tell him how it is, if he hits you with excuses tell him forget about it, you may just want to look at the Jeep Compass then. If he really wants you in an off road vehicle he will break when you bring up the 17 year old girl's compass!

I only had to sleep on the couch one night when I bought my 08 4 door sahara and ordered my 08 4 door Rubi the day after! Seems like you have been living in hell for a few days now!

Go balls out, or go home crying is my suggestion. Put it out there and don't be afraid to get it cut off! He may just break, or give you the real reason.

My son bought a used car. We checked it with carfax etc. All looked great. We went to get some warranty work done on it and the dealer told us that the engine had been removed for body damage and reinstalled. We thought it might have been in a minor fender bender but since carfax was clean.... If you buy a used car that is not too old check with a dealer and give them the VIN # and they can tell you if it has had any problems. If they had any problems most likely they would take it to a dealer to be fixed.
