I've got Trail Graps 295/70/17 on a stock JKUR running 1 1/2" spacers. Just driving around town it still rubs the lower air foil under the front bumper. I could easily just remove the front air foil and no longer have any issues.
But as far as off trail.... I have a JKR with 2 1/2 inch Rock Krawler lift with 35 inch Trail Graps and they rub like crazy on the trail (rubs rear stock bumper and rear fenders), so I've got flat fenders sitting in the garage waiting for me to get off my butt. So if those still rub with a lift I know that the 295/70/17 are going to rub on the trail too.

yes but I have been there done that and you lose too much valuable travel. If someone just wants to run dirt roads that is a great way to go but if want to really start playing which ultimately everybody does you need some lift.

Stock Rubi's come with 255/75 r17s. (32's) You can go to a 285/70 17 or equivalent, (33's) but you will probably get some rubbing on the sway bar at full lock. You will definitely get rubbing on the plastic air dam thing, trim it, or even better: remove it. You won't have any noticeable loss in handling or fuel economy without it. As far as rubbing on the sway bar, you will ether need to adjust the steering stops (search YouTube), or buy wheel spacers 1.25in or wider. [edit] or buy aftermarket wheels with better back spacing.

I haven't been there lol I run 35's on a 2.5" RK Max Travel with flat flares and stock bump stops my tires barely touch the fender liner mounts at full compression of the shocks. I was just basing my comment off what a lot of people do at stock height or close to it
