2013+ Upgraded Axle Shafts and U-Joint-Sizes
Hi guys,
I've got a set of new axle shafts for a steal and noticed they are much beefier than my stock ones from 2008.
Not my image, but you get the difference anyway.
I had to grind my hub bolts slighty to get them fit. Nearly no space is left inside the hub.
With the new shafts the searching for a spare u-joint began. My usual place had no clue which size it was, so i had to search in some part catalogues and such. Was fun
Here in Germany you've get some strange answers regarding U-Joints, various dealers wanted to sell me the whole old shafts of course.
The looked like some better aftermarket shafts, like the G2-shafts, put they were originally from a brand new JK that upgraded to RCVs.
DANA Spicer part no. for the newer axle shafts:
2014616-1 driver side
2014616-2 passenger side
Mopar part no.:
68145055AA driver side
68145054AA passenger side
There was my discovery, i've got the part no and know that i had much stronger and beefier shafts, according to DANA Spicer PDF.
No place could help me out with U-Joints for these numbers. I've only found part catalogues up to the 2011 JK and they all use the same old shafts.
Some russian part site put light on the shed, the U-Joint part no for 2013 and later models is 68145053AA.
I've got one, not original Mopar nor Spicer, but you've got the size comparison:
upper one is the one for the old shafts
measurement in mm, not inches, in the pic.
Some circle-snap-rings with 28mm-Diameter, grind a little off the shafts to fit them and you're good to go!
Last time I had a failed U-Joint in Norway, some thousands of kms away from home. Gladly I traded a bottle of Vodka for a fresh U-Joint, cheers! And swapped it in the parking lot:
