The 2012 owner's manual says to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter at the required mileage. (64,000 for extreme duty, 120,000 for normal duty.) 2015 is similar.
The 2012 service manual has a section on transmission fluid/filter change.
It's the normal pan drop/filter change routine.

Thanks. I knew it could be serviced because it called for it in the owners manual and it has a dipstick and filter replacement available. Just found one thread (it was for a grand Cherokee) talking about needing a temperature sensor to do it which sounded off to me.

I had a problem with the hot oil light coming on. I was told by the dealership to flush and fill, and replace the filter. Went to NAPA and found out the filter is a dealer part. So I took my jeep into the dealer and had them look at it. luckely for me it was done all under warranty. would have been a $1,400 repair.

Do you remember how long ago that was? I ask because Napa shows the filter and gasket in their system. What ended up being the issue? OEM Filter + fluid is only ~$200 if you had to do a full refill, so I am guessing they had to replace something else?

Had Trans serviced; replaced filter and fluid at 45k miles (2012 JKU). I would service it more regularly; if you service it at the dealer recommend interval, the warranty will have expired leaving you with a troubled tranny.

Yes. 30K to 50K would be good for the transmission, especially since people are posting that their transmissions are running in the 200°F+ range quite often.

It was only 2 months ago. My JKU has the Mercedes Benz transmission. Yes they replaced the valve body.

Thanks for the reply. Napa in northwest Florida is carrying them. Guy behind the counter even double checked as he thought it was weird when it came up as Mercedes Benz....

Yeah, I have a feeling the guy at my local NAPA didnt know what he was talking about. I have checked at other parts stores and they carry them.
