It could be due to the tuning if they are using an aggressive advancement of the timing. Surely you dont have enough miles on it yet to have carbon buildup, but you might run a bottle of seafoam through the tank and see if it helps

Are you sure it says that?

Yeah, I read that, too. I was hoping he would go back and read his owner's manual. There is the slight possibility his manual does say to use mid-grade. That's the only reason I can think of for him to post such a positive statement.

I switched to synthetic 5/30 at 1000 miles, now have 2200. It is under warranty, at least it should be, lift and tires/wheels aren't going to break a motor. Like everyone else I have a wicked tap for about 2-3 seconds when I start the jeep first thing in the morning, valve train seems to get a little dry overnight or when it sits for a few hours.

I would take it in and tell them you want it fixed. If they tell you the tapping and pinging are normal, ask them to show you a few other 12's on the lot that do this...

I was under the assumption that a little bit of the tapping noise is heard on all these motors, other penstar owners chime in here. Will try to remember to record the start up and post a short video of it. Maybe a ls2 swap in my future lol!!!

I will say my 07 with 45k miles has never tapped or knocked at startup. It does consume oil though. Different engine though you get the point

Honestly I never worried about the start up noise, I test drove an Artic edition that did the same thing with 12 miles on it. I had no metal shavings on my drain plug magnet at the first oil change, will see how it looks on the second.
