Default 1st Time Soft top Install

Fianally stopped snowing so here we go....

The torx bolts that hold on the hard top bolt into things that are clipped to the jeep.

How do I properly remove these things without breaking them?

You talking about the nutplates? They'll be fine to leave in there

I did try the search but could not find the answer. Computer is running very slow today. Needs more coffee.

The Best Top Supertop has a rail that I have to fasten where the hard top sits and they have given me nutplates to use. But I need to remove the existing nut plates.

Wait

Maybe I can use the Hard Top tork bolts to hold down the rails with the existing nutplates?

where in ontario did it just stop snowing? lol....anyhow, on my 4 Dr I have a nutplate that covers the holes to where the torx screws fasten my freedom top. I finally figured out how to remove them, are these silver things what you mean? The only reasons I wanted them out were because the are a pain, and two, to help secure the soft top when down

They are the plates that the torx bolts screw into.
They seem to clip under the sides that the hard top sits on.
Not sure if I just have to pull hard to unclip them or if there is a "trick" to it.

if you have the same metal plates that I do, they are a biotch. What I did that made it easier was to bend each end down, not forcefully, and then wiggle the plates out. Takes a bit of work, but I got 2 sets on each side out with only minimal damage to my skin!

Hey, these nut plates can't just fall out? I put the soft top on a few weeks ago assuming not and left them in.

PS: forgot the question mark and think'n about rattles possibly later

On my unlimited the rear or last plates were the only ones that seemed able to "fall out". I removed them easily. I left the remaining plates in because if I can't get them out with that much effort, I doubt that they will just "fall out".

Nice sunny day yestersday so I put the supertop together and put it on.

I just used the same torx bolts that hold on the hard top so I did not have to pull out the bolt retainers. Worked well.

Only a few problems with the top, couple of holes did not line up but I was able to drill them out to fit the bolts. Instructions were complete and easy to follow.

It was very sunny so everything heated up and stretched well.

Gotta go buy some sunscreen.
