17.9 is LOW. I get 18.5 around the city. Higher on the high way.

My JK gets between 14 and 16 mpg in heavy traffic... Lots of traffic lights... more sitting still than moving. However, on the highway I routinely get 22 mpg with the top down. I find that the hardtop gets a bit better mileage than the soft top, less parasite drag. If I lollygag along at 60 mph, I can get 24 mpg on flat highways. With the soft top on and up, I can manage only 23 mpg using cruise control. It was better, but the bigger tires and mods have cut into the fuel mileage. A big killer of fuel mileage is the stop and go caused by endless stop signs. Around here, we have a stop sign epidemic....

Yeah, if you own a Rubcon Unlimited with auto trans those figures seem pretty unbelievable I know. My stock 2-door Sport 6-speed with the 3.21 diffs & 32" tyres: 18-20MPG city, 22-26MPG highway. People complain about the tall 3.21 gearing on the 6-speed Sports & how it affects performance, but Chrysler put them in to achieve good mileage (so they could achieve their CAFE targets) & they work for that alright.

To put it into perspective, at 70MPH in 6th gear the motor is only turning over 1950RPM with the 3.21s & 32" tyres, vs over 2500RPM with the Rubi's 4.10s. At 40MPH in 5th (which is the 1.1 ratio for the 6-speed box & eqiv to 3rd in the autos) she's barely turning over 1100RPM.

wow I get b/w 17-21 depending on my road rage; of course no lift, but I do run 32" Bridgestone Dueler a/t 695's and I have two o2 sensors that are shot lol (working on fixing that though)

Typically, 24 mpg is under ideal conditions. I have the auto with 3.73 gears. The overdrive (a very tall final drive ratio, something around .6/1) is what provides for the exceptional mileage. However, when I get into the hills, the overdrive cannot maintain speed, and it unlocks. Net result is a 2 to 3 mpg decrease in mileage. Driving mountain highways, I'm happy to get 19 to 20 mpg. Another factor to consider is that my JK is a two door, several hundred pounds lighter than the JKU.

I'm getting 19 right now, mixed driving with 3.73, 2" and 33's. Not to mention XHD bumper
