Every Rubicon I look at on the lots has the painted fenders. Without the protection of the stick-out side steps (Sahara Type) the knobby tires must throw gravel at the rear fenders like bullets....

you know what gets the most rock chips on my jeep.. the door hinges.

 

I dont hardly have any paint left on my hinges and my rear fenders are all pitted and messed up. I cant imagine having painted fenders....Then again I drive on gravel 50% of the time.

 

I would go with black fenders if you dirt road much or if you are getting a white jeep. Even bugs pit those white fenders. Just my opinion

 

I find it odd that you find a lot of Rubi's with painted fenders. I have seen maybe 2 ever. Any tire is going to throw gravel. Yes, the door hinges and the lower edges of the rear fenders will get the rock chips eventually . Step rails or something are easy enough to acquire and put on if thats what you want. Just go for it. 3M will protect good in the meantime. Just do the lower front half of the rears. That should be all you need.

Damn sissified the Rubi in 12. Sad just sad (maybe in 13 theyll add a color match wheel well cover like on the honda insight) haaaaa

 

Just get a plastic reconditioner and rub it in. Faded looks better than chipped imho.
