The downfall with the newer generations of Jeeps is all the damned electronics. I keep the sarai top on because of the 3 year old, but if it's just me or me and the 17 year old, I'll take it off. It takes only one time getting caught in the rain to learn to bring it with you!

I meet my ex in Altoona to drop the oldest off. Weather looked great in Volusia, but as we got deeper into Lake it looked nasty...but off in the distance, so figured we were OK. We got less than 10 minutes from the gas station (the Kangaroo at 42/19....damn good unhealthy fried foods!) and the bottom dropped. Going 60 was fine, but some jackass pulled in front of us and proceeded to go 35. I thought I'd be smart and ditch down a side road off of 42 that leads to the p-lot....hit a 8 inch deep puddle and threw dirty water up and over the windshield and bars right on us. A 15 minute wait by the pumps and I was off again.

My philosophy....it's rain and you bought a Jeep. Just learn to smile about it and say "...it's a Jeep thing".

As far as doors and mirrors...yes, it's OK to go doorless and you have to have a driver side mirror at the minimum . The doors came off of the TJ at the end of May and I took the top completely off the middle of June. I'll definately be getting some of those quick discon's before it goes back on in September. Of course it's not a daily driver and I have a garage....that Mrs. Lawdog would rather use for the Civic.

The number of side view mirrors differ from person to person. If you look at you DL and see a restriction, it'll tell you what it is on the back. Some people that are legally blind in one eye, but 20/20 in the other can still drive but might have to have 2 mirrors. I know on the older ones, it had a full description of all restriction codes, and I think there was one for drivers side, passenger side, or both mirrors required. But reading the state statute, I believe that only the rear view, IF NOT BLOCKED, will suffice --
Title XXIII
MOTOR VEHICLES Chapter 316
STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL View Entire Chapter

316.294 Mirrors.--Every vehicle, operated singly or when towing any other vehicle, shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of the motor vehicle. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

History.--s. 1, ch. 71-135; s. 1, ch. 76-31; s. 207, ch. 99-248.

Remember to check the trunk out and pull the plug in the truck so that it will drain too... I forgot that, and when my wife put her leather purse in there, she reminded me... any questions????

So, are all you guys with bikinin tops just not worrying about the cargo area and rear seats getting wet. I finally broke down and put my hard top back on since I got tired of having to put the cover on every time I get out and park. I sure do like it better with the bikini on! Just worried about soaking the rear and the back seats daily.
