I went the cheap route the first time with a $35 Cobra from Walmart and a magnetic antenna from Radio Shack. It worked for two trips and then it crapped out. I could be ten yards from another vehicle and they couldn't pick me up. So I decided the next time I would do it right and not cheap out again. The second time around I went with a peaked and tuned Cobra 29 from WalCott CB. I learned a little more about SWR readings and grounding along the way too. I'm guessing these two things had a lot to do with me frying my first one.

Making some mods to the CB setup today - not much, but will probably do even more later when I install one of the two new 3' Firestik II antennas I scarfed up for a good deal on eBarf. Also need to finish cleaning Wilbur from last Saturday's outing.

any cb experts available this evening or tomorrow?? I can't figure this MFer out. I've got a good ground (and I've tried more than one ground) and my SWR is still off the charts. I'm at a loss now. I'm thinking about ripping all the wires out and burning the junk in the back yard.
