I mounted mine on the spare tire carrier because it came with one. It sits on the right side of the Jeep but with the hard top on it sits behind it. My antenna will whip about a bit but not to bad. I would give you a photo but my camera is drying out from todays run.

4' firestick mounted on the spare tire carrier. I placed the mount on the lower driver's side bolts of the spare tire carrier to get the antenna lower. As it is, sticks up about 1' over the roofline. If I had placed it where it was designed to go - it'd be about 2' above the roofline.

Does that make sense?

I used this one:

makes sense...

with the mount flipped, does it make a difference in range with the 1' difference?

For those with poor RX/TX using short antennas and the spare tire bracket like the one above, try a different bracket or a longer whip and raise the antennas height. Most antennas spec out with 2/3 of the antenna above the top of your vehicle for best performance.

I use a 3' fiberglass mounted to the top of the back of the center brake light and have great reception.

I'll dig up a pic... give me minute

Same story here. Mounted on the license place frame and hangs out ready to get broke off. I wish I had gone with a center mount.
