Default Smittbilt Side Armor Install pics

Went out and got the side armor today. thought I would share some pics.

My 9 year old son wanted to help Dad with the install

Here is a closeup of him removing the forward body mount nuts.

It is truly a 2 person project just because of the weight of these things. With the help of my son, a small floor jack, a 16mm socket, and a rubber mallet; Installation took about 1 hour for both sides.

When I had originally seen these at a show last year they did not have the steps welded in. It was a great suprise when I unwrapped them.
I picked these up at 4wheelParts swapmeet in Compton. In addition to great deals on on tires and wheels, everything in the store was on sale. These rails usually cost $289.99 but I got them for $200.00. Not sure if they are doing sale prices at all locations or just the compton store today and tommorow (4/25-26)

looks pretty cool, any pics of how they mount? I'd like to see a closer side shot to see just how low they hang, and an under shot to see how they mount if you don't mind.

looking good tho. love the roof rack as well!

The drop is even with the outer frame rails maybe a half inch lower. your crossmember is still the lowest point

Forwar mounting point

The next one is kinda weird. imagine laying on your back looking straight up into the forward mounting body mount

Rear mounting bracket

Hope these help

so they don't hang down past the frame that far? only about 1/2 inch you say? They look like they hang way lower from the pics, so that's good to know that they don't.

do they feel strong enough with the way the mount? can you jump up and down on them and they not give? have you tried to lift your jeep up with a hi-lift using the rails?

sorry for so many questions, but for the price I am seriously looking into these instead of building my own like i did for my last JK.

do they make for a good step? my wife and son have mad trouble getting my JK now with over 4"s of lift and 35"s haha.

Thanks for the quick pics too!

Having just put them on today I have not tried to put a hilift jack under it. It seems powerfully stable. I did use my floor jack to help hold them up while installing and my boy did almost get the back wheel off the ground (just to see if he could) ran out of jack before he could get it off the ground. But while he was doing it, it never flexed up. I tip the scales at abou 28o and i was bouncing on them (stability check) and no downward flex. the boy and the wife really like the steps when getting into/out off the jeep. Again if the bottom rail is not level with the frame rails, i doubt they are more than a half in lower. the cross member is still obviouly lower.
