SD Meet n Greet Corral Canyon Sat. Nov. 14th
San Diego Meet n Greet 2009 @ Corral Canyon
The San Diego peeps will be having a November Meet n Greet at Corral Canyon open to all levels of JK. There are many hard parts at Corral Canyon (Bronco Peak, Sidewinder, The Connector) but for this run we plan to do the Skye Trail to Espinosa Trail which is scenic loop offering views of Lake Morena along the way, the trail has a few interesting spots but nothing hard and can be done with a stock JK. The run has a couple of creek crossings but all were dry last time out. Any Newbie will be fine on this portion of the ride, last time we had a couple first timers in stock 2dr JK's and they had no problems at all.
At the end of that loop we'll end up back at four corners where we plan to say our good-bye to those who came for the Newbie portion of the run and we'll continue on to Bronco Flats which leads into Gunslinger. Bronco Flats is black diamond but not too hard. I have seen a stock XJ make it through. If you are planning on doing this portion of the run it is recommend that you have rock rails. This is a short but challenging section so depending on time/breakdowns we might be able to tackle more, however, at this point in time we are only committing to the above. More details/info to follow but I wanted to get this posted so people can save the date!
**UPDATE - weather/Camping**
The weather reports for the area this weekend is lows in the 30's with a high of 61 degress. I got confirmation today from the Forest Service that there are absolutely no fires or charcoal bbq's permitted in the Corral Canyon campgrounds due to extremely dry conditions. Furthermore the fire restrictions will not be lifted until they receive some wet weather. That said we've decided to make it a day trip but understand some of you my want to camp so my recommendation would be to camp at Lake Morena which is next to Corral Canyon. They do allow campfires (rationalize that one) but charge a day fee (listed below).
We will have a couple caravan's one for the North County peeps and the other for those in the Central & South Bay locations. Post will go up shortly. Please try to be at the staging area on time aired down and disconnected we'd like to get through the first couple of runs by mid-day if possible and try more challenging trails for those who'd like...of course we will be playing it by ear since we'll have less daylight.
We plan to stop for lunch so be sure and pack something for yourself as well as some snacks especially if you are planning to do all the runs!
