I just bought the 2014 with the hard top and I'm looking to add a roof rack. I've eliminated Yakima and Thule as a bit underpowered. I was looking to mount directly to my roof via rails(drilling holes vs gutters or a larger Kargo cage) a Surco 45x50 Safari rack. I would start the mount immediately behind the T top seam and that should allow me enough room. Does this make sense or do you have any other ideas/ If you have done this, pix would be great. Local shops all seem to want to push me to Yakima/Thule, Kargocage or Wilderness racks (which are really cool but I bit overdone for what I will be doing). Most of what I plan on carrying is light weight camping gear, SUP's etc. Thank you in advance for any suggestions...

 

I bought the surco 50x60 and the adapters for the unlimited hardtop. Once I get it this week I will install and let you know. This is a removable option with out drilling into your jeep.

 

So I bought it and installed it by myself. Not too bad. The kit was missing two bolts that I had to go track down. Very light weight and seems pretty sturdy. Took it on the highway empty and it does have some wind noise but I could say that anything on the thin roof will make noise.
I paid a total of 380 from amazon with prime so no shipping cost. Now we have a 5000 mile road trip from FL to AK we have to make it through.
