Oh, Lord, what have I gotten myself into??
I just ordered a new '16 JKU which will be the first Jeep I have ever owned. After doing a bit of research around the interwebs, I have come to the conclusion that my wife will, in the very near future, be taking away any form of plastic payment that now resides within my wallet. I mean, really, how many different kinds of gadgets, gear, upgrades and accessories can one vehicle have? Yes, I do believe my discretionary spending account will soon be tested in ways that I never envisioned. Although, a more immediate concern would be how do I stop daydreaming about flying mud and rock crawling until my Jeep arrives? Speaking of which, I had better get back to work before the boss peeks over my shoulder. Windows + D only works so fast...

Welcome! And yes, you are about to go down the rabbit hole!
You will likely get sucked into the alternate universe of Jeeping where you try to keep things small and simple, and yet 2-3 years from now you have spent as much on modifications as you did on the new Jeep! I know that I am getting close!
When the JKU arrives, make sure you come back and post a picture!

Congrats on the new Jeep and welcome to the forum. I"m pretty much in the same boat. My Chief Financial Officer (aka "The Wife") doesn't always understand or agree when I want to order something for my Jeep. But a wise man once told me, "you can be right, or you can be happy". So I'm trying to go slow and be happy.

Welcome to JKF. As for upgrades and what not, I would highly recommend doing as much research and only buy once. The quickest way to get on SWMBO bad side and get cut off from Jeep spending is to tell her that you need to buy another lift 6 months after getting one installed. Second biggest piece of advice is to invest in good set of hand tools if you do not already have some. This will save you a ton of cash when installing upgrades.

No reason to go out and buy a bunch of crap for your jeep. Drive it and enjoy in the stock form for a while. In time you will see how you want to customize it to your liking and needs. Learn about how tire size and suspension heights affect the jeep and other components.

I have to agree with Dirtman. I had MAX for 3 years before doing the big-build. Somedays I wish he was still stock. Instead, I convinced the husband he needed a JKU and we are both enjoying the stock and built versions, depending on the need.

My darling bride has already informed me that I will be spending some time with it the way it is before I get to change anything on it. However, I've been reading a lot about Jeeps and can't believe some of the things that a stock wrangler can do right off the lot. I live in SW Missouri so I am planning to hit the "easy" trails at SMORR (now that I know such a place exists) so I can put a little mud on my new mechanical mistress and see what she's capable of before I make any rash (re: EXPENSIVE) decisions regarding how she stands. When my wife declared that she didn't want to drive a "manned up Jeep", I thought I was being clever by telling her that I wasn't going to "man up" our jeep as much as improve the way it looks. Like using a push up bra or SPANX! I was NOT as clever as I believed myself to be...
