Default Newbie from Vermont

Hi All, I'm the (very) proud owner of a JK Unlimited X ! Graystone Pearl, black soft top, S package, power group, tow group. I've had her, she's a she but not yet named, for just over a week. She's my first Jeep and I'm in looooove!:toung:

Once I made up my mind that I was actually going to do this thing it took about a week for me to find the one I wanted. I didn't want black, rescue green, or steel blue. I was pretty open to every other color - except to say that if yellow had been available that would have also been on my list of no-go colors. Also knew that I wanted auto transmission, power, the S package, soft-top, side steps and Sirius. Initial searches within 500 miles (and there are A LOT of Jeep Dealerships within 500 miles of Burlington, Vermont!!!) gave me some leads, but then none of the dealerships wanted to get close to invoice OR they didn't want to play fair in regard to my trade. Of course, the dealership closest to where I live was the crappiest to deal with. A few days after my inital search the second closest dealership got MY jeep in via a swap with another dealership. I called up, we hashed out the basics of the deal over the phone .... next day I was in and out in 3 hours with my new ride! The only bummer was no Sirius (all of the Jeeps I saw that had Sirius and the other stuff I wanted had the upgraded stereo and I didn't want that big subwoofer taking up space in the back). And the smoker's package was added, and they wouldn't take out that $30 cup (what a joke!). I told them that if I started smoking it was all their fault!

My mods will be few, I'm not all that handy! I got the Sirius Stiletto and the vehicle package. Did a quicking "install" myself .... just enough to hide the wires and get it working. Once the weather is nicer and I get the top off I'll probably do a better job of tucking in the antenna wire underneath the padding of the roll-bars. Also rigging up a water system in the back for when it's hot out and the doggies need a drink .... Also am looking for a replacement screen-window for the rear window. I'm somewhat paranoid about the dogs wanting to get out at a stop light. Been searching for one but without luck thus far. If I can't find one I will try to buy a regular window and then see about having a screen sewn in to replace the plastic.

Whew .... that's a lot of info for my first post. I'm SO psyched to have this Jeep in my driveway. I smile whenever I get in and out of it.

Welcome aboard, Kebbajeep! About that rear window: I'd just caution you about the dangers of carbon monoxide.

Gotcha, but what is the difference between driving with the window out (when going the sunrider route) vs. having a screen in?

Just make sure that you're allowing sufficient ventilation from the sides/top of the vehicle, depending on how you set the windows/top. If you only have the rear window open (and the rest of the windows/tops closed), then you risk sucking in air from the rear--along with carbon monoxide. From the owner's manual

"On hardtop models, keep the tailgate window closed when driving your vehicle. On fabric top models, do not drive with the rear window curtain up unless the side curtains are also open. This will prevent carbon monoxide and other poisonous exhaust gases from entering the vehicle."

Congrats on finding your JK and this site, it is great. I wish I was back in Vermont, born and raised in Huntington. My cousin is still up in that area dirving a green TJ with a big Golden Eagle on the hood, so if you see him give him a
