Default Newbie needing buying advice

Hey guys and gals,

Probably get this a lot but I need some advice on purchasing my first Jeep. Looking used and torn between an older Rubicon or a 2012+ Sport or Sahara. Don't really need the Rubi but always wanted one. Budget is $20K CND however in my area that means an older 07-09 Rubicon with mods already done which I'm always apprehensive about or a stock 2012+ Sport or Sahara which wouldn't allow for any room in the budget for mods for a while. Currently in talks with a private seller about this one: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1360944300 Owner states he did the work himself but is willing to let me take it to a mechanic to check over all his work as he's done all the aftermarket stuff himself. He did say the electronic sway bar disconnect isn't working. Price is pretty decent considering the kms and the area and he's open to offers but I'd like to get it for around $17K CDN. Other option is the 2012+ with the newer (better motor IMO) but impatiently waiting. This would be used for basically bumming around town and occasional entry level off-roading and hunting. Lemme know what you guys think! I appreciate your input!

Hrm... given your last sentence, I'd go 2012+ as I don't see you using any of the Rubicon equipment (lockers, e-disco swaybar, lower gears, 4:1 transfer case)..

i agree. Get the newer interior and more power. I would want stock or near stock as so many don't know what they are doing in terms of lifts and other mods. I have seen some really dumb stuff roll thru Nates shop.

Agree with all of the above. Go newer, and unmolested at that.....even if it means you have to wait a bit to mod it due to budget. At least you will have known EXACTLY what has been done to it. You can have heck of a lot of fun in a stock jeep still!

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards. It is the more rational choice just trying to keep my emotions in check over the Rubicon. Gotta remind myself that either way I win with a Jeep! Thanks!

Hey jeepers!

Thanks for the advice! I ended up purchasing a 2013 standard black sahara unlimited with zero mods and now just have to save up to start putting my touches on it. I do need some recommendations for decent online suppliers located in Canada to order accessories and parts though which don't kill you on shipping costs!!

Thanks,
Paul

Congrats on the Jeep. Just remember Jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket!

Check to make sure your 2013 has had the recall completed dealing with the heads. When the 3.6 came out in 2012/13 there were issues with the heads. Also check to on the passenger side air bag. My 2011 has a recall on the airbag.

Thanks guys! More money is going out than coming in thanks to it already! I know it's already had the airbag recall fixed but I'll double check on the heads recall. Looking for a fast back soft top if anyone has some good suggestions!
