Default New to offroading

Hi,

I got a Jeep Wrangler X 2008 a few months back. I'm new to offroading and have only done it a few times in some easy terrain and with all stock parts.

I'd really like to know what modifications I should do first to make it an awesome offroading machine!

Welcome to the forum

Congratulations on the new Jeep, and I'm glad to hear you've already started to enjoy it off-road.

Where to start modding is a difficult question often constrained mostly by budget. If your budget is like mine (and probably like most everybody else's) then you only have a small amount of money each month (or paycheck) that you set aside for your Jeep.

So, baring a large sum to throw at the Jeep now, I'd have to recommend that you start investing in recovery gear. Not a winch (unless of course you have a large sum already), but tow starts, tow hooks (if your Jeep doesn't already have them) a hi-lift jack or come-along.

Once you've got some basic recover gear, ask yourself what type of trails do you enjoy the most, how tall do you envision you Jeep being, what frustrates you the most about your Jeep's current performance and/or appearance?

Me? The first mod I did was a 2.5" Budget Boost. I left the stock tires and rims and just lifted my Jeep. The extra height adds a lot of capabilities to an already capable machine.

Just my 2-cents, I'm sure others will stop by shortly with their opinions. Don't hesitate to ask questions

The only trails I have available to me right now are soft sand and firm dirt with hills, low brushes, and not much else. Im sure eventually Ill be in creeks and other less desert like terrain.

I know I want to do a lot of customizing over the next few years. A lift, though I'm not sure how high I want to go. A friend suggested nothing over 4" but I'm not sure if that 4" is necessary or if I can do it all with less. I want to put new wheels and eventually new tires (just bought mine and theyre expensive so I'll make do with them for a year or so.) I also want to add some bumpers and armor to it.
