Hello there, my girlfriend just bought her 1st Jeep, I have love and been around jeeps most of my life but never been this closed to having one in my own garage. We are very excited and want to begin by installing a lift and tires to start the accessories process. My first question to whoever can help is what do you recommend for a decent suspension lift to accommodate 33 inch tires. We are mainly going for looks with possible minor for wheeling. Our jeep will be mainly commuting in a city so we want to keep the ride as comfortable as possible.

thank you for your help

Jill’s jeep is a 2013 Sahara unlimited.

For what you are doing and I usually do not recommend Rough Country, but in this situation where you are keeping original shocks and springs I would go with their 2.5 lift kit and track bar relocation bracket. The whole kit sells for under $200.

We all have opinions and that is fine, so no disrespect to Locky at all but most of us would put Rough Country in the category of worst possible suspension options for a wrangler. Lifting for looks gets a lot more expensive than most people think it will. If you're just wanting 33s I'd throw a small spacer lift (under 1-2") on top of the factory coils and roll on. You start going to 2.5" springs and you likely end up higher and that will require more money to address things like caster, recentering axles with adjustable track bars, and sometimes that front driveshaft. Keep it simple as you can is my advice. There are usually unexpected expenses along the way for most people.....

Welcome.. And I agree that a budget boost lift will probably get you the look you want- and they are not very expensive!

Welcome from VA! Unless you just HAVE to have it right now, I would suggest getting the one you ultimately want first, I can't tell you how many times I have bought inexpensive alternatives, and then went back out and got the upgraded version at some point. It would have saved me time and money in the long run if I had just waited, saved the money I needed, and got the second one first!

Thank you, that does help I am kind of looking at the rough country spacer lift but I have another question. Do you know if these normally get rid of the rake? Or do I have to purchase an additional 3/4 inch spacers for the front. To install with the rough country spacer kit?

Check the descriptions. From RC's website for their 2.5" spacer lift:

Features

  • Front spacer measures 2.5in
  • Rear spacer measures 2in
Also look at Leveling kits, which should be 2" front / 1" rear.

And when you get a chance, go down to the Modified JK area, there are some threads stuck right to the top that offer some good info to browse through.
