New JK owner from Boston
After doing the van thing since 2004 I finally traded it in for a brand new 2010 JK Unlimited (I've had her 2 weeks). She is currently completely stock. For some reason I am proud of my roll up windows and manual locks as it reminds me of my YJ that I loved before we got the van.
Suffice it to say that I have 4 kids and a husband. My oldest has a nasty brain disease that has rendered her blind and eventually will do other horrible stuff. The whole point of going back to the Jeep lifestyle was to continue our mission to experience life as much as possible. She loves it, my other 3 kids love it.
I have some mods in my future but for mobility reasons I need to get some steps installed STAT. The rails are still a bit too high up, do you guys (or ladies) have any suggestions as to steps that are low but won't interfere with any future off roading (I don't want them ripped off during a trail).
Or, I could continue to lift all the kids in. The three little ones (4, 5, 6) are already pretty darn tall as my husband is 6'6" but my oldest needs a boost.
Thank you.

Hi Kat, welcome back to the Jeep life! You said you already have side bars on your Jeep? http://www.quadratec.com/products/12102_009X_PG.htm I found that on on quadratec it is suppose to slip over your existing side rails and be a step and then lifts right off when you're ready to go. Hope that helps. Have fun with your family and new Jeep!

My husband works a lot (we own our own business) so its generally only me with the 4 kids. 1 adult and 4 little people isn't too bad right now but I'll probably expand to include the Little Seats.
I don't currently have any steps but I don't think the stock steps would really help as it doesn't lower things down that much for my daughter. I'd like a much lower step but am fearful it will rip off once we hit a good trail.
Zking: that looks perfect! Would I have to get a double slider bar to attach it to? A plastic rubbermaid step might be cheaper at this point...
MaineRubi: The meet and greet sound fantastic but I'm on Mom duty on Saturdays. Sunday is the only day I can really go anywhere solo.
Thank you for the welcomes everyone.

I think that particular step I posted will fit on any/most side bars. I'm sure if you contact quatratec with some information they will be able to tell you exactly if it will work with your Jeep. Nothing wrong with a little step stool either. We have a folding two step stool in our apartment (wife's 5'1"). We got it at Wal-mart, it was cheap, it's sturdy, nice wide steps and it's durable. Might be a good multi-tasking step/addition to the Jeep.
