Default New JK in Manassas, VA

Hi out there. First time owning a jeep, but not the first time as a driver. This site is great! Right now I'm just trying to figure out what to do first for my JK, other then looking for a mud pit to go driving through without any problems with the law. If anyone in the Manassas area can help me out that would be great.

Hello, fellow Manassas Jeeper.

Unfortunately, most places to wheel in the NOVA area are illegal... "private property, no trespassing" kind of stuff. Depends on how brave you feel that day. Now, there are a few Jeep clubs in the area that do trail rides in the GWNF as well as several off-road parks in the region. One of them has many members here in our area. Not sure if I can post the link here, but they're called "NoVa Jeepers", so I am sure you can figure out what their website might be.

Congrats on the Jeep... I am still waiting on my Unlimited Rubi. Luckily, my ol' YJ still gets me around, and dirty from time to time.

What can you tell us about your new ride? Mods? Options? Opinions?

I'm in Manassas as well, and with the same situation as you. First time owner, but not first time driver. I've been a Jeeper for a while, just without a jeep

I've found that the dealership [parts department] on 28 offers discounts for members of the previously mentioned group [NOVA Jeepers].

Speaking of that dealership, they are holding a 'swap meet' of sorts TOMORROW (sorry for short notice). I think around 9AM or so. Was told they'll have demonstrations, etc too.

I've started a couple of mods, and have a few plans in the works (see my sig for 2 in the works).

Message me if you're interested in some ideas. (the "trunk/shelf" will be cheaper if there are multiple people interested) I'll be at the dealership event tomorrow sometime, either with a 4door with firefighter tags, or with my Ambulance.

The new ride is great! Sure as hell beats the jeeps I drove in the Corps as fast attack. Right now I haven't figured out what mods I should do to it. Not to mention I don't know what I can do to it without voiding the warranty. I have thought about getting a gps for the ride but can't decide on what model to get. Tomorrow might be tight any idea on how long it's supposed to last I'll be getting home from work around 7am?. Any suggestions or thoughts please do tell.

According to the Nova Jeepers web page (under their Calendar) it runs from 10AM to 2PM. And, to top it off, I just called the dealership, and confirmed it as well. I'm on the understanding that they hold this once a month... NOVA Jeepers Calendar.

As for your GPS, I've seen a link or two on these forums talking about a Garmin 7200. Its a bit pricey, but it has video input and a large screen (7 inch) so you can plug it into your factory radio (if you have the DVD) and actually use the screen (will require pulling the dash and some mods.
A good write up in the jk-forum.com is https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...ht=garmin+7200

Link for a good review of the 7200 is http://gpsinformation.info/7200/7200.html

Hope you can make it out there sometime... (hope I can make it there too, for that matter)

For some of the 'mods' I've been performing, I've been approaching with safety... If I am going to cut into a piece of trim, I'll buy a new piece (or at least price it out) in case it turns out bad. That square on top of the center stack (above radio) is only $5. Others go up from there. Now, if I were to pull apart my radio (like I plan to next weekend....) that will probably void the warranty on the radio. (But if it works, its worth it. [I'm going to 'relocate' the aux input to the back] hate wires showing.)

I saw that writeup a while ago only problem with that mount location is that I was planning on putting my Uniden pc78ltw in the same spot. I could try to mount it on the dash where the trail guide would go.
