Default new jk guy, where to start????

just bought a jk and eager to start modifications and i must admit a little overwhelmed with info. This site is loaded with valuable info and thanks to all that post. My plans are to keep it street legal. I have been to superlift in hot springs arkansas twice with some guys that have modified 4x4's, broncos, jeeps, buggies, toyotas etc. I don't want to go extreme but would like to ride some of the trails and drive home or trailer it. So where to start, winch, bumpers, suspension lift and or body lift and how much, tire size. I'm on a budget so can't do it all at once. and i don't want to spend money 2 or 3 times like i have heard of many people doing as they change direction and modifications, you know what i mean, 4 inch lift and 33's, 6 months later 6 inch lift and 37's.....any and all advice will be appreciated, thanks

Welcome to the Forum! I am that guy that bought a Rubicon because it was ready and didn't need any mods. I started the mods with 2.5" lift on 35"s. Four months later went 4" lift on 37's. Six months later going full EVO double Throw Down system. SO, my advice is to decide exactly how you plan to use your Jeep and and modify it accordingly. Save you cash and don't buy until you know what you want it to be in the end. Good Luck and have fun!

It all comes down to research, then more research, then more again. A few key points to remember when making you decisions though:
1) if you go above 3 inch lift, youll need to change out your drive shafts cause the CV joint will wear out
2) if you have a stick, you cant do a body lift over an inch due to the tranny angle.
3) When going up in tire size, i'd recommend buying cheaper used tires off craigslist or something. You may hate it and this way youre not as heavily invested. I paid 200 for 35 BFG's and i'm glad i did. got over a year on them and now know i want 37's!!!
4) With all the weight of the mods, youll want to go to 5.13 gears especially if youre on 35s or larger.
5)While regearing, have them weld on some C gussets- A must for wheeling with a Dana 30 up front and wheeling with 33's or larger.
6) PLAN PLAN PLAN Then build.

Have fun!!!
