New Chick in Offgrid Idaho
I've been a long time lurker and always found myself Googling questions about my jeep only to wind up here, so i figured it was time to pull the trigger.
I've got an '08 JK that I bought after a 5 year hiatus from Jeeps (had a rock crawling YJ for almost 20 yrs), and it's been an integral part of building a cabin and offgrid homestead in the Idaho Mtns. Over the past 3 years, I've modified the rig to meet my needs of being self-sufficient up here, especially in winter, as the plows stop about 3 miles down the road. I'm always on a quest to learn more and hear of people's experiences, especially with winter/ deep snow driving and adventures.
My cabin is literally on the Nat'l Forest border, so my backyard stretches all the way to MT. Self-rescue is imperative as there's no cell service, so I find myself building an Overland/Expedition Jeep over a Rock Crawler this time around. Every year, I end up pulling stranded vehicles out who underestimate the rough country, and each time I think if there was something else that I wish I had on the rig. I learn something new everyday.
I look forward to learning and sharing of experiences with like-minded folks!
