Hello, my name is Alex, from Vermont. Im looking into buying a JK Wrangler in the next month, and have some questions for you all.

LIving in a climate that can be quite cold during the winter, i like the idea of having dual tops, but prefer the look of half doors. Are the full doors removable? What if they have power features? Is there an aftermarket hard top that is compatible with half doors? Also what do people who have the My gig feature think of it? I do quite a bit of traveling throughout New England, so Navigation is a nice thing to have sometimes. And finally to anyone who has ridden in the back of both 2 and 4 dr models; how much more comfortable, if at all, were you in the Unlimited? is there alot more room? is the 2 dr back uncomfortable for anyone over the height of 5'6"?

I realize a lot of these are kind of newbie questions, but be gentle, its my first time.

I'll field the one about backseats in the 2dr model.
Sitting back there is bearable, but accessing the backseat is a dangerous joke.
If you plan on having more than one frequent passenger, seriously consider the unlimited.

 

Im not carrying someone everyday back there, but I do go to Maine, and Hampton beach with friends, so someone may be stuck back there for 3-4 hours, which was my concern.


Also, there are two gearing options from the factory. What are some pros and cons of each?

I know when we test drove the 2dr... my wife (5' 3") had a hard enough time getting in the back of one... dont know if you have any plans on lifting it.. but if so I imagine that would make it harder.

we bought the 4 dr in the end.. and I have a friend who is 6'8" and he fit in the back seat no problem.. had enough leg and head room. And thats w/o moving the front seets forward at all.

I would get the 4 door. Aesthetically I prefer the 2 door but the 4 has to be much more comfortable. My friends get stuck trying to get in and out of the back. Mind you, we're mexican and use to getting into small cars. Securing my daughter to the back is a hassle. And the passenger side seat rolling back sucks butt. I would advise to get the 4x4. I just can't comprehend why you would get the best right-out-the-factory off-road vehicle, that should not be allowed anywhere near a rock.

I don't even think they're trail rated lol.

I will definitely be getting 4WD no matter what I decide. What type of gas mileage have people experienced with the unlimited, both Rubicon and not. What about 2dr, Rubicon or not.

 

i have 33's 4:10's and a 2.5 inch and i get 16 city 19-20 highway. its pretty bad. oh yeah and its a 2 door x.

 

We have a stock Rubi 4 door and get 17 city, 22 - 24 highway. My 6'3" son sits in the back seat occasionally. He said it is fine in town but he wouldn't want to go great distances there. Part of the problem is the overhead has speakers that hang down a little and are black in color. Although they are located just behind the front seat and don't interfere with the back passenger, my son says it makes him feel a bit claustrophobic. A smaller person probably would do just fine. The nice thing about the 4 door is the extra space to haul all your goodies. Also allowing easier access to whatever you haul. Good luck with your choice.

 

I think you can get away with not having a hard top in the winter if your Jeep is garaged. The heaters put out adequate heat for a soft top (at least a two door). I owned a TJ when I lived in Minnesota with a soft top and half doors -- enough said.

I'm 5'10" and on in the heavy build category and I didn't think the back seat was that bad (except in the middle). The leg room is cramped, but the worse part is getting in and out. There's an art to it and after you do it a few times it's probably not an issue.
