JK THERMOSTAT - 3.8L vs 3.6L
Hi Jeepers,
New to this forum (in fact any forum :/) so thought it about time to jump online and get help instead of scratching my head trying to figure things out on my own.!
So my 2010 3.8l JK has a thermostat leak. Doubt it's ever been changed as I'm the third maybe fourth owner? Definitely have coolant leaking from the gasket join so needs replacing. Thinking might as well replace the entire unit not just the gasket. It's just about to click over 200k kms (125k miles on the clock)
Question is - is there a difference between the thermostat housing of a 3.6l vs 3.8l. i.e. are they interchangeable? Seems I can readily find aluminium ones for the 3.6l but only plastic looking ones for the 3.8l !
BTW I'm in that big island called Australia

Welcome to JK Forum. I would suggest a check of the part numbers.. IF they are the same should interchange.. if not .. No Swap. By the look that does not look like the on on our 3.6l.

for me, a thermostat is easily replaced and i'd stick with factory. on the 3.6L the thermostat is built into the housing. Not sure if it was like that on the 3.8L or not, but if it is, I'd certainly just stick with the factory unit. Just like our radiators, thermostat and housing are pretty regular mainentance.
