Well I've been sponging information and how-to's from the forum for quite awhile (GREAT resource for a rookie), so I figured it's about time I posted up! My second JK (long story), but the first one that I've planned on getting some mods on. Just finished the latest...front XHD and winch. Took a few hours sweating in the garage in July at 5 am for the install, but I'm happy! Hopefully lift and tires soon...thanks for all the good tips to so far!

Thanks GCM! So what's the concensus on good spots to wheel while it's 800 degrees in the desert during the summer?

North to Alaska! Just kidding, last week/weekend we did the back road to Crown King (started off a little warm, finishes nice), then did Payette Draw in Payson, really nice temps, then wheeled around Sedona, very, very comfortable, then finished at The Cinders up in Flagstaff, very cool temps. Just need to head to elevation!

That's hilarious! I just read that thread about the trip up north thinking, damn, I need to get some serious mods and some serious experience until that is in my league! in Payson...Houston Mesa by any chance? It looks familiar...

Hey, the big ticket item is the jeep. There were a few people in the JKX that were first time offroaders! Now they had some pretty badass rigs for first timers, but the key thing is they wheeled with experienced and mature (very important) wheelers. 9 times out of 10, there is a bypass on obstacles and no one should ever force you to accept a risk you aren't willing to take. From what I gather, the AZ gang here on the forum are all top notch safe jeepers.

That is a great thing to hear for a rook. I went ahead and joined the Phoenix JK group (Thx Croce), but funny you mention heading north to Alaska...I am heading up there next week for a much-needed vacation from the heat and I'll be out of town for the next meeting. So hopefully I'll catch everyone in September!
