I have been lurking on your forum for about a month now, reading and trying to understand more about modifying my Jeep, but I thought it was time to make my presence official. So, hello all! I bought a 2010 x 4-door a little over a year ago, but have not done any mods yet. Just got a new job so I figured I might have some extra cash to put to use.
I have never gone off-roading, but I am very interested in doing some trails. The only thing I have done was drive over some parking lot snow mounds. That is the extent of my "off-road" experience.
I guess my question to you all is what should I do first? I was thinking I might try to do some easy trails with my stock vehicle, then build up from there. Budget boost and some larger tires might be the first things on my list.
Also, is there anyone from Chicago out there? Just wondering where there is to go around here to do some trails.
Well, thank you for the knowledge you have already shared via all the posts I have read. This seems like a really amazing source for Jeep info and I'm sure I will be coming back to this forum for a long time.

Welcome! Sounds like you have a pretty good game plan. I find my plans can change from day to day depending on what new info I gleam. Just keep reading and you'll decide what you need/want.

Great Lakes
Join the Great Lakes staging area. There are a few guys from up in that area that come down to Attica, IN to The Badlands offroad park. There are usually atleast a few newbies that come. A bunch of great people that will show you the ins and outs of off roading so that you can get your feet wet. We do not have another run scheduled yet, but I am sure there will be soon.

new to jeepin'
RIchard I am in the same boat as you. Got my first jeep in march and have very little experience. I've done some mods to my jeep but nothing real crazy as I don't want my warranty voided by chrysler (read up on this forum to find the hardships THAT brings). I'm gonna test her out stock for a while to determine what type of offroading I'm into - trails, mud, crazy rocks......there's a lot of different variables that will dictate what you will need in the form of lift and tiresk so check it out first and go from there.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum, get out there and run it stock.you will be amazed at how well it does stock. Then decide what mods you want.
Its not a good idea to wheel by yourself though.Always go with at least 1 other jeep, you dont want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere by yourself.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I can't wait to go out and get my feet wet. I watched the videos of the Rubicon trail which piqued my interest and lead me to this forum. I would love to get to that level one day, amazing stuff. I need to start somewhere though, and I would really like to go out on a group outing. Glad to see people are accepting of the newbies! Thanks again!
joined. I'll keep my eyes open for the next scheduled run.
I would be down for that.
