Default Yet another Wheel backspacing question

Question. I know that this has been covered a lot, but I was wondering if I mis-read it. One, is it correct that the factory wheels come with 6.0" of backspacing and if so, that you need a maximum of 4.5" to fit larger tires? I thought that I had red that you needed at least 4.5" of backspacing but that seems off (shouldn't it be maxium...not minium?). I was checking my wheels today and they are 18x8.5 with +12mm offset which I was told that supposedly equates to 5.25" backspacing. I'm afraid that I will have rubbing issues. I'll be running the Skyjacker 4" and 35's. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!

I just installed 33x12.5x16 tires on my Sahara with 5" of backspacing. I have no problems with rubbing.

Im pretty sure the OEMs are all 6.25" At least the few Ive found specs for have all stated 6.25 Backspacing
Jeep Rogues
Jeep Hulks
Max or Min depends on your point of reference. Max as in the larger backspacing number? or? Max as in the absolute maximum amount of backspacing without rubbing which is actually a smaller number :toung:
From what I understand with 35's the ideal backspacing is between 4.5-4.75". I read that 5 is the max threshold before rubbing.
Sorry if any of my info is wrong, this is just stuff I absorbed through browsing through here.

I believe it is 6.25 for the Grand Cherokee wheels and 6 for the JK. I'm looking at getting 9089 Pro-Comp wheels. Here are the specs.
Part Number 9089-8973, Size 18x9, Bolt Circle 5x5, Offset -6mm, Back Spacing 4.75" Load Capacity 2200lbs, Wheel Weight 28lbs

Factory JK Wheels have 6.25" of Back Spacing. I have physically measured them myself to verify this.

Thanks everybody for the input. Well, by Maximum I meant as a higher backspaing number, minimum as the lower. The dude at the tire wholesaler told me they should be right around 4.5" B.S. When I got them back to work, I could tell they had a positve off set so I decided to check the B.S. My Rubi is due in any day and I may just have to go with these wheels and put a small 1/4" spacer or something if necessary.

Are we talking 4.5 " backspacing on a 8 inch rim with a 12.5inch tyre or a 9 inch rim on a 12.5 inch tyre ???? there is a difference

Like Rodney King said when Bryant Gumble ask him his opinion of the L.A. police department...."Beats the hell outta me, man!!"
