How about the Recon 10,500 with synthetic line? Less than $500 shipped.

Sure . On its own It will cover most things . But I would still have a snatch to cover the rest.

Bought my XRC and never used it but kept up on the maintnance. I unspooled it before a wheeling trip just to make sure she was good and as I went to put the clutch lever to engage the whole thing fell out along with several ball bearings. I immediatly went to my local offroad shop knowing they had the m8000 and I had it installed. I have used it several times and no problems.

You might be better off with the XRC10 over the XRC8. Another option to consider is the Recon 10.5 (includes syn line for about $475.) There's a thread on this forum about it.

The Warn draws the most. The XRC10 will draw slightly less power to do the same work than the XRC 8. The Recon sips power in comparison to all three--much more efficient motor. The XRC8 can only do 5100#s on the 4th layer of cable, where the XRC 10 can do 7089#s. The Warn is 6320#s on the 4th layer and the Recon is 8250#s.

Based on the Specs, I'd go with the Recon followed by the comp series (means it has syn line) XRC10 and then the comp series XRC8. The warn is way over priced for what you get.

XRC 8 (LOAD - DRAW)

XRC10

I bought the Warn M8000 for my ZJ about 4 years ago when on sale for $425. It has performed well. When I built our Unlimited Rubi last summer, I went with XRC10 for $399. It has performed well also. It seems a little faster with more pull power, as it should. IMO, the M8000 is overpriced at its current level. If the XRC10 fails, I have the lifetime warrantee. If the Warn fails, I'll get another XRC10.
