Okay bud. The point is...he wasn't asking for your opinion or approval...he was asking if anyone knew of a way to protect the gaping void left by the wonderful Chrysler engineers. That is all.

Haven't taken mine off, but how about:
-Tuck some plastic over the electronics in the entire length of the gap(like saran wrap)
-Use expanding spray foam to fill up the gap (over the plastic)
-Shave off the excess and paint to match the jeep

Then if you need to get to anything (if this is long term, you shouldn't), just chip it out and the process can easily be repeated. Should be decently water-resistant... hesitant to say water proof.
